Bundle Project

The bundle project was intended to let us decipher different spacial arrangements and relationships. The bundle was made up of non-valuable items that were wrapped in duct tape and cut in half to reveal the spaces and forms. As a first step to analyzing the bundle was to first hand draw a tonal rendering, accomplished with just graphite pencil and took about 5 days to finish, a figure ground to determine solid from void, as well as collages made from different mediums both printed and drawn.

We then took the bundle and created a plan and a non-corresponding section. Along with these two major drawings several diagrams and photographs of different spacial and formal moments were laid out on a board made of white trace paper. As a next step we were to take elements from the plan and sections drawn and make a three dimensional wood model out of it. Using elements from the wood model I came up with a design for an “auto-biographical house.” Each section and plan was drafted in Autodesk Autocad. To supplement the design of the house were wooden models at a smaller scale. I constructed my final wooden model out of bass wood sheets and sticks.

Upon completion of the auto-biographical house I focused on threshold condition. I had a partner for this part of the project and we each took a threshold condition from our designs and combined them into one spacial experience. This was drafted in Autocad and is exploded to show each individual piece and how they all come together. These drawings were drafted in Autocad and they depict different joints and how each piece comes together. The final model was constructed out of nominal 2x2 lumber and put together with only the wood joint and glue. The final structure was very sturdy. Each piece was machined by hand with the use of a band saw, compound miter saw and table saw and put together within a week.
